Durrells Bridge House

built 1798

Built in 1798 for Kennebunk's shipbuilders and cared for by only five families since, DB House 1798 now opens its doors to guests for the very first time. Historic charm, thoughtfully reimagined.

A Home Rooted in Kennebunk's Shipbuilding Past

Long before Kennebunk became a beloved coastal getaway, the banks of the Kennebunk River hummed with the sounds of saws, hammers, and shipwrights at work. In the late 1700s and throughout the 1800s, Kennebunk Landing was one of Maine's busiest shipbuilding centers, where skilled craftsmen built sturdy wooden vessels and launched them down the river to sail the world's trade routes. The prosperity of those years shaped the town, giving rise to the fine homes that still line its historic roads today. Among them stands 5 Durrells Bridge, one of the oldest and most historic homes in Kennebunk. Built in 1798, it has witnessed more than 200 years of the town's story, from the golden age of shipbuilding to the charming seaside community guests enjoy today. Staying here is more than a vacation; it's a chance to live, for a little while, inside a piece of Maine's maritime history.
